3 Things to Do Daily to Build Fluency

Whenever I’m asked what the secret to building and maintaining fluency in a foreign language is, my answer is always the same: daily learning, daily exposure, and daily practice.

1. Daily learning involves making an active effort to consciously learn something new. Aim to learn (at least!) one new grammar point and/or one new word/phrase per day.

2. Daily exposure involves improving receptive skills (listening & reading) through intentional exposure to the target language. Set aside a bit of time each day to read and listen to some French.

3. Daily practice involves refining productive skills (speaking & writing) through deliberate use of the target language. Aim to speak and write in French every day.

Keep in mind that the end goal is daily progress. You don’t need hours on end to achieve this; a little of each task, every day, is enough.
